Cllr Críona Ni Dhálaigh is a fluent Irish speaker and a champion of Irish language rights. She has worked for Conradh na Gaeilge and Comhar na Muinteoiri Gaeilge. She is the mother of two sons, Caoimhín and Domhnall.
Críona was co-opted onto Dublin City Council in May 2006 and was the first female Sinn Féin councillor on Dublin City Council. She has been involved in republican politics for over 20 years, joining Sinn Féin after the 1981 Hunger Strike, and worked as constituency office manager for Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD before going on the Council.
Since her election Críona has aggressively gone after unscrupulous developers and worked for better planning enforcement in Dublin. She is a member of the Regeneration Boards for Chamber/Weaver Streets, St Teresa’s Gardens, St Michael’s estate and Dolphin House.
She has also worked to ensure family friendly housing and was a member of the Council sub-committee, which successfully improved the guidelines for apartments in the face of opposition from developers.
She has highlighted the damage done by drugs and anti-social behaviour and sits on the Dublin City Joint Policing Committee to work with the Gardaí to find solutions.
